Gasses

Do you know?

A gas is a substance that is in a gaseous, or vaporous state of matter. The term gas is also used in reference to the state itself when applied to matter that has the properties of a gaseous substance. Gas is one of the three natural states of matter, along with solid, and liquid. A gas has no fixed shape nor volume. Gasses expand to fill the container while decreasing density until evenly spread out, as gasses take the shape of their container, the space between particles in a gas is large. Also, it is a state of matter that is active in terms of molecule/atom movement.

CHARACTERISTICS OF GASSES:

  • gasses have neither definite shape nor definite volume. They expand to the size of their container.
  • gasses are fluid, and flow easily.
  • gasses have low density, unless compressed. Being made of tiny particles in a large, open space, gasses are very compressible.
  • gasses diffuse (mix and spread out) and effuse (travel through small holes).
